Edgerley For the week leading up to this game, the following conversation became common, between me and Tyler.
Child - "Who are we playing on Saturday"?
Adult - "Ware"
Child - "Where"?
Adult - "At home"
Child - "Where"?
Adult - "At home"
Child - "So we're playing Ware"?
Adult - "I've told you twice already ... at home" !
Child - "I meant the team"
Adult - "What"?
Child - "Ware are the team"?
Adult - "Yes"
Child - "No ... Where are Ware"?
**slap**
It was akin to living Abbott and Costello's 'Who's On First' sketch, on a daily basis.
He nearly never made it.
As for the match?
Ware started the brighter, but Wingate soon stepped it up a gear and took control. Gary Burrell hit 2 shots in the space of a minute, the second, and weakest, eventually ending up in the back of the net after the Ware keeper pawed at it. A soft goal, which was no doubt helped by the keeper's 70's David Cassidy-esqe fringe flopping over his eyes.
The second half was more of the same, and the second goal came courtesy of Chris Chase from a Burrell cross. Chase was my man of the match, chasing (no pun intended) down everything, and being a general pain in the rump. It was his cross that set up James Edgerley, unmarked, for the third.
It also snowed for a short period, and there would have been some great photos, if I'd remembered my camera.
Next up will be the trip to Potters Bar on March 6th ... if the damn weather holds out.
